GET INVOLVE IN OUR COMMUNITY

Club members put together backpacks with supplies for at-risk elementary school children each year. These children have a higher probability of dropping out if not given a helping hand to succeed.  Backpacks were provided to third, fourth, and fifth graders for the return to school classes after the summer break.

BISD Homeless Kids Project (Nov. 18, 2020)

Donations to this program have shown a decrease due to COVID-19 concerns. Ms. Diana Clough, Homeless Youth Program Coordinator, assists any family in need that is on this list of high needs families.

Students live in non-stable conditions that put them at risk of living in the street. Our projection to address this need is to initiate by this December. We are planning long-term assistance. The short-term need is to help them with daily essentials, which are homeless. We propose a collaboration between the Rotary Clubs from our zone.

First, we will open a registration list on WalMart.com named “Christmas for Homeless Kids” this list can also be used in the store and contain items that the kids need for a life with dignity. Second, Members will distribute a flyer on social media, and all of our clubs’ members, friends, and family may participate in this endeavor. Third, any person who would like to contribute to this cause can purchase the item on the wish list online or in the store. Wal-Mart will ship the item to the warehouse of our member Celia Galindo.

Our deadline for any contributions will be Thursday, December 17th.

The donations will be sent to Ms. Clough for student distribution on a tentative date, possibly Saturday, December 19th. These items are for the individuals on Ms. Clough’s list. The public will not receive them.

An alternative method to this contribution would be gift cards donations purchased at Wal-Mart gift cards. These contributions, in turn, will be used for the fulfillment of the wish list. Family members will not receive gift card contributions. Designated members will utilize them to purchase items on the wish list.
